The region relies heavily on exports and in general the entire infrastructure sufficiently supports the region specific export industries. 

The predominant transportation method is by road, with daily scheduled transport. Ocean freight is used more infrequently on an irregular basis dependant on specific exporters needs.  Exports are primarily transported by road to Reykjavik and from there it is exported to Europe and USA via ocean or air freight.  This efficient transportation system provides the possibilities of shipping fresh caught seafood from the region to foreign markets.

Air transport is scheduled from the northern region on a daily basis and from the southern region twice a week.

Energy supply in the region has constraints, especially for large scale energy intensive industries.   Despite these limitations, sufficient energy can be provided to small scale industries with the maximum total limit around 12-15 MW.  The region is a “cold” geothermal area (compared to Iceland in general) with limited geothermal energy (natural hot water). Long term investment possibilities are available in hydro-energy.

Communication and high-speed internet connectivity is very good within the region, with only the most remote farms lacking access to high-speed internet.

Land and premises are available throughout the region and some inexpensive industrial properties are available. Some of the properties are ready and have been approved for food processing. If suitable properties are not available, building contractors can be easily recruited.

Ports are in every village and the largest ports and in some cases ships up to 100 m long and with approximately 9 meter draught can use port facilities.

Clean water is abundant in the region, suitable for water intensive production.
